Kussmaul, Paul. 2007. Verstehen und Übersetzen. Ein
Lehr- und Arbeitsbuch. Tübingen: Gunter Narr (collection Narr
Studienbücher).
* Verstehen und Übersetzen (Comprehension and Translating) is
a textbook which takes up a basic problem of translation, namely
understanding the words of the source text. This is a main
topic in translator training since miscomprehension of a source-language word
will surely result in a mistranslation with sometimes amusing, sometimes severe
consequences. On the basis of cognitive linguistics the book shows how to use
comprehension techniques and strategies to overcome these problems, thus
enabling students to translate professionally.

Perhaps it is useful to remind EST members and
visitors of this site that no matter how remote their location is and how small
their budget, they have free and full access to a few TS journals on line. One
of them is Jostrans, the Journal of specialised translation, a recently
created international refereed journal. Its content is becoming increasingly
interesting. Below are the table of contents of the 9 issues published so far.
Note in particular the empirical studies on revision in Issue n°8. There are
also video interviews with Translators and Translation scholars.
