EST Congresses

The founding meeting of EST was held during the Translation-Studies Congress “Translation studies – an interdiscipline”, held in Vienna, Austria, 9-12 September 1992. The proceedings of this Congress were published as Snell-Hornby, Mary, Franz Pöchhacker and Klaus Kaindl (eds). 1994. Translation Studies. An Interdiscipline. Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Benjamins.

The 1st EST Congress was convened in 1995 in Prague, Czech Republic, with the theme “Translation as intercultural communication”. The proceedings were published as Snell-Hornby, Mary, Zuzana Jettmarová and Klaus Kaindl (eds). 1997. Translation as Intercultural Communication. Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Benjamins.

The 2nd EST Congress took place in 1998 in Granada, Spain. The proceedings were published as Chesterman, Andrew, Natividad Gallardo San Salvador and Yves Gambier (eds). 2000. Translation in context. Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Benjamins.

The 3rd EST Congress was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2001. The proceedings were published as Hansen, Gyde, Kirsten Malmkjær and Daniel Gile (eds). 2004. Claims, Changes and Challenges in Translation Studies. Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Benjamins.

The 4th EST Congress was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2004.

The 5th EST Congress was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2007.

The 6th EST Congress will be held in Leuven, Belgium, in 2010.

 

EST colloquia

 

       EST also organizes technical colloquia on specific issues. The first event of this kind was an EST “Round Table” on Research evaluation in Translation Studies, which was held in Misano on September 19, 2003. A report can be found in EST Newsletter N.23.

       One colloquium on publications in TS was held in Ghent, Belgium in September  2005. The report can be found here. A colloquium on research skills in TS was convened in Ljubljana in September 2006.
